It is a plant of the Lamiaceae family present in Spain, the south of England, and France, especially in communities in mountainous areas. It is a perennial shrub in the form of a bush that reaches 80 cm in height. The leaves are linear and oblong and the flowers, which are produced in terminal spikes, are hermaphrodite and blue or violet in colour, highly scented. The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the flowers.
